Knicks Get Byron Davis

Baron Davis, waived last week by the Cleveland Cavaliers under the labor agreement's new amnesty provision, plans to sign with the New York Knicks on Monday, said a person with knowledge of the situation who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly
The Knicks are trying to bolster their backcourt after getting rid of Billups to sign free-agent center Tyson Chandler. After that move, the Knicks were left with young point guards —Toney Douglas, starting his third season, and rookie Iman Shumpert. But they signed veteran free agent Mike Bibby, who finished last season with the Miami Heat, and now Davis.

Davis has the ability to perform at a high level but doesn't always fulfill that potential. He has averaged 16.5 points and 7.3 assists over 13 seasons, including 13.1 points and 6.7 assists with the Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers last season.Byron Davis is also known for not being in shape and will not play now because of a back injury.
